When eCall activates, the 112/999 operator will ask what emergency services the driver wants.

In some situations, the driver may decline assistance. They may want to sort out the recovery themselves, they may not consider it necessary, or they may be concerned about committing an offence.

However, where there has been an automatic activation, there may still be a vehicle on the road causing danger for other road users. So even if the Emergency Services are not contacted, the Road Authorities need to be aware so they can protect the vehicle in the incident and the approaching road users.
